Who We AreThe Trott One Name Research Group (TONRG) was formed back in 1987, in the United Kingdom, although the founder members had conceived the idea some six or seven years earlier. Lynne Evans took the plunge and registered with the Guild of One Name Studies (GOONS) that she was acting as Secretary for research on the
TROT(T)/TRAT(T)/TROTE names with various spelling differences. The first members were Ralph and Peggy Trott of Dursley in
Gloucestershire with the initial newsletter being issued in April 1988 and not long after this a "family gathering" was held at Woodbridge in Suffolk, derived from
our late founder member Margaret Leech's earlier "get
togethers" with her Suffolk line of Trotts. Guild of One-Name Studies (GOONS) One of the pre-requisites of GOONS, is that all relevant occurrences of the name should be extracted from the Births/Deaths/Marriages Indexes located in The Family Records Centre, London together with those for Wills found at Somerset House. The group was lucky to find that Edison McInnes Trott of Ottawa in Canada, a fellow researcher, who had undertaken this effort, in relation to the name
TROTT, for a book he planned, was prepared to pass on a copy of his efforts (completed in 1980) to the group. Since then the group has added to his original work and now has the great majority of data available up to
2008 (Wills to 2000) in manuscript, typed and computer database formats records. These data records are for the use of members free of charge. How do we Operate? TONRG is run by a committee of the following elected members who meet mainly by e-mail, and also face-to-face at our three-yearly gathering: Chairman:
