Shettle & Shuttle Gathering in 2003

On  13th September 2003, Maureen Shettle & her sister Irene organised probably the first-ever gathering of Shettle and Shuttle families at Guildford in Surrey where they live. Nearly 30 members of the various branches attended with many cousins meeting for the first time. We enjoyed an excellent lunch prepared by Maureen & Irene & were blessed with excellent weather for the day. Below are some photos taken by Phil.

Legend provided by Maureen: Standing extreme left is Keith Shettle (my 4th cousin); next to him is my auntie Rosemary Blakemore (nee Shettle) (my Dad's sister); next to her is my Auntie Doreen West (nee Shettle), my Dad's youngest sister; seated in front row on extreme left is Kathryn Shettle, wife of Keith; next to her is yours truly; next to me is Tim Shettle, the younger brother of David Shettle standing behind him. Their father Alfred (known as Jack) Shettle is the tallest person in the group at the back; then comes the mother of Diana Shuttle, originally Eirwen Williams. Diana is in green immediately behind.

On the end of the row in black is my sister Irene Shettle; standing to your right is Joy Mallinson (nee Shettle) from Bristol; next to her is Diana Shuttle from the Ascot area of Berks; next to her is David Shettle; next to David is is his Dad Jack from Bristol; standing just in front of Jack is Ruth Lidyard (nee Shettle) from Streatham; next to her is Ruth's niece Anna Maria Shettle, who is also the daughter of John Shettle standing just behind her; next to John is Alfred (known as Jack) already mentioned; standing behind his son Tim is Patricia Williams (nee Shuttle), the sister of Diana. Patricia lives in New Zealand but comes over on annual trips. The two sisters are descended from the Shuttles of Woolhampton and Speen in Berks.

Behind Diana in green is Lorraine Mallinson, the daughter of Joy already mentioned; behind Joy is Bob Shuttle from Essex who comes from the Essex branch who are in turn an offshoot of the Little Bedwin clan; he's my half 5th cousin as he's descended from Edward Shuttle's second marriage to Catherine Dudley, whereas most of the other Shettles in the group, including me,are descended from Edward's first marriage to Hannah Dixon. Next to Bob is his wife Annemarie; and not forgetting yourself and Freda on the end. Freda's also descended from the marriage of Edward and Catherine Dudley.
